By LinuxUser01
Recently purchased an HP DV7-7012nr from Eluktronics with a 16GB memory upgrade. Have been running the system for almost two weeks now without issue. System runs very fast and smoothly. The 3rd Gen i7 processor is extremely fast. Blu-Ray and CD/DVD burner work very well. Backlit keyboard is very nice to have especially when working at night in dim/dark conditions. The Beats audio speakers are awesome. The system does come with the ability to install dual 2.5" drives. I was disappointed that HP did not include the second drive caddy and extension cable to connect it. However, Eluktronics was very helpful with getting the additional drive cage posted as an item for sale on Amazon. The anti-glare 1920x1080 screen consistently displays a clear image on the screen, and the anti-glare works far better than I could have hoped for. The additional desktop real estate is very nice when working with multiple applications. Currently the system is running Kubuntu 12.04 LTS. The Windows 7 operating system is on the original drive, and will be installed when the additional drive caddy arrives. This will be great for dual booting without having to repartition the drive to be shared between two separate operating systems. Internal maintenance with the drive bay area is easily accessible. Memory dimms and wireless are all accessible from under the drive bay cover with enough ease that few should have any trouble switching out components. One note for future buyers who wish to use virtualization such as VirtualBox or VMware on the system is that VT must be enabled in the BIOS. Didn't see any overclocking features in the BIOS, but could have missed them. The aluminum casing is a step up from the flimsy plastic cases on the lower-end laptops. It is sleek and appealing, and will hopefully add durability to the laptop long term. Power consumption with default power settings is just under 5 hours. Will have to play around with power settings to determine if the 9.5 hour battery life is truly achievable. The system comes default with a HDMI out and a VGA out. The VGA out works well, and I've not tested the HDMI out yet, but will soon. The system also comes 4 x 3.0 USB ports which are awesome and fast for new external USB 3.0 capable media and drives. The mutlireader is hidden towards the front left of the laptop, and is easy enough to access.Further, Eluktronics was very helpful and very persistent with regards to inquiries about the new system. They were also very helpful in helping to obtain the secondary drive caddy and SATA cable to complete the dual-boo solution.Great system. Highly recommended to potential buyers. Also, go for the 16GB additional memory upgrade as it only $100 additional, and is well worth the update.

I purchased this HP Pavilion DV7 Laptop with 16GB RAM Upgrade a little over a month ago and am more than satisfied with the product. I used PC Mover to transfer all files and programmes from my previous HP laptop to this new one and was a pretty smooth process. (Props to PC Mover for their excellent Live Chat assistance.) I use the laptop as a desktop replacement but need the mobility, so the impressive longevity of nine cell battery is great. Even with the laptop on my lap, the protrusion of the battery is not really an issue. Also, given the graphics files I work with frequently, the 17" screen is perfect for looking at files side by side. The processing speed is just what I need too - I looked a long time before I found this 16GB RAM option on Amazon; not sure why it was practically hidden! - as I run multiple programmes simultaneously most of the time. So far, no issues with sticking keys or overly sensitive touch pad or anything like that. I happily recommend this product to anyone looking for a mobile but powerful and speedy laptop that is reasonably priced.

Just received my new HP laptop and I couldn't have asked for a better product or service. After much online research and on recommendation from Consumer Reports, I've found exactly what I wanted. This laptop does everything (and even more) than I could have expected. The graphics are awesome and the speed of the computer is much quicker than my Dell desktop. You can't go wrong with HP's Pavilion DV7-7012nr ... perfect for small businesses and personal computing. Will definitely do business with Eluktronics again soon!
